What is ok to eat after working out at night?

Nightime is pretty much the only time I have available to work out, and afterwards Im always starving! Its really hard to fall asleep so hungry. Thanks :)
Answer:
I workout late at night too. I discussed this same thing with my personal trainer. He suggested a small meal of predominantly protein, that's what your body needs most after a workout. Only carbs should come from fruit or vegetables; no bread or pasta or rice. And always drink a little bit more water than you think you need, even if it means you'll have to get up to go to the bathroom during the night; better to have too much than not enough.
Anything as long as it doesn't spike your insulin levels, avoid anything with sugar or simple carbs.
It is essential that everyone eat after working out regardless of the time. The reason is because during exercise the body releases a catabolic stress hormone called cortisol. Cortisol breaks down lean muscle tissue and increases fat storage if not suppressed. The way to suppress cortisol is through insulin which is released when you actually eat. You should always eat within an hour to an hour and a half after working out. The post workout meal should include some fast digesting protein and carbs. For example, some protein, preferably whey, and some healthy carbs. A protein shake with some fruit would be ideal. Never go to bed hungry, it will only cause you to overeat in the morning.
When I working out at night- Others find it really hard to sleep because of adrenaline still pumping in their blood. Eating after working out is recommended than eating within an hour BEFORE workout. Instead of "eating" after a workout. Try a soothing glass of milk. I suggest you can drink a glass of soy milk to prevent you from getting hungry afterwards. Soy milk replenishes your glycogen stores in your muscles because it is rich in protein, (especially the ones you've used. )
something that will sit in your stomach without causing too much dammage while its in there. Celery, Carrots, Oatmeal, Chicken, Fish, Turkey, protien shakes. Bananas are great post workout, but go light on them because of the sugar content for when you go to sleep. I steer clear of food totally after my night workouts- make me feel like I'm losing weight because I'm going to bed hungry lol... after all, once you fall asleep, you arent still hungry...
Try a pria carb par. They are very good and have lots of nutrition, there was a study a while back and people who ate one everyday for 6 months lost 10 pounds without dieting or exercising. Also you can always eat some veggies or fruit. Like grapes or an apple. A well sensible snack is key, as look as it has some nutrition benefits and you wait 3 hours after eating to go to bed then you will be just fine. Also eating after you work out is actually good for you because your body is recovering from exercise and burning many calories after you have finished exercising so the calories from what you eat will burn a lot faster. I saw on Oprah that her trainer actually recommends eating something sweet like flavored yoplait yogurt after exercising because your body responds quickly to burn the calories you are taken in
